I stood where a city used to be.
나는 한 도시가 있었던 자리에 서 있었습니다.
Alone in the ruins, I wandered the past through a scent I imagined.
폐허 속에서 혼자, 상상의 향 안에서 과거를 노닐었습니다.
Then, in the scent right here, I wandered its past glory, its present, and whatever comes next.
그리고 지금 이곳의 향에서, 과거의 화려함과 현재, 그리고 다가올 미래를 상상하고 노닐어봅니다.
Into the Ruins
밤, 폐허This used to be a great city. Hannibal's city.
이곳은 한때 큰 도시였습니다. 한니발의 도시.
Rome wanted it so badly, it burned for seventeen days.
로마가 너무나 갖고 싶어 해서, 열이레 동안 불탔습니다.
I thought about that, standing there. And I swear I smelled smoke — even though there was none.
그 생각을 하며 서 있는데, 사실 아무 냄새도 없었는데도, 분명 탄내가 났습니다.

Jasmin in Ruins
돌 틈의 자스민Sweet and heavy, the scent reached me first.
달콤하고 짙은 향이 먼저 다가왔습니다.
It made me picture the city as it once was, ruling half a sea.
이 도시가 바다의 절반을 다스렸던 그 시절이 그려졌습니다.
Then I remembered — the jasmine wasn't from back then. It was blooming right now. This place was still glamorous.
그러다 깨달았습니다. 이 자스민은 그때의 것이 아니라, 지금 핀 자스민의 향이란 것을. 이곳은 지금도 화려했습니다.

The Ground Beneath
그 아래의 땅The smoke in my head, the jasmine in the air — both fade into something older.
머릿속의 탄내와 공기 중의 자스민, 둘 다 더 오래된 무언가에 스며듭니다.
The ground beneath it all. It's carried a city up, and burned it down, more than once, before I ever stood here.
그 모든 것 아래의 땅. 내가 여기 서기 훨씬 전부터, 이 땅은 도시를 일으켰다가 무너뜨리기를 몇 번이나 반복했습니다.
I step out of that imagined walk, into a darkened street that still smells of earth — and look forward to how glamorous this place will become.
어두워진 거리의 땅내음과 함께 상상 속 노닐음에서 나오며, 더 화려할 이곳을 기대합니다.
